- This program was established in April 2014 as a third graduate education model different from conventional academic research or specialized fields. It is a 5-year program which does not separate Master’s (standard two-year) and Doctoral (standard three-year) program and gives students more time to devote to diverse seminars and research than other courses. The program enables students to acquire a high level of expertise as a Doctoral program while acquiring practical skills that will prove useful in their future work. We welcome Science and Engineering students who wish to become leaders on the international stage and we help them polish the skill set required to resolve global issues, which now involve a complicated web of physics, chemistry, life science, electricity and electronics.
The requirements for the degree include acquisition of 50 or more credits, publication of multiple academic papers, and submission of a doctoral dissertation. The degree certificate policy is as follows:
- The standard timeframe for completion of this Doctoral program is five years. However, students with excellent grades and academic references who are judged by the sectional screening committee to have made outstanding progress in research are allowed to participate in an accelerated program. This program does not award a Master’s degree.
- Degree screening is conducted by the student’s supervisor and co-supervisor, and consulting advisor (participating from an industry) and faculty members at Euro-American universities, who serve as sub-screening members.
- Upon the completion of the first two years of the program, a Qualifying Examination (QE) is administered to ensure that the student has acquired the necessary specialized capabilities. The requirements for taking the QE include acquisition of 36 credits in compulsory subjects and publication of at least one academic paper (including papers submitted but not yet published) as well as submission of a proposed doctoral research study.
